Orientation Program for local NGOs was Completed

The Second Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project (SSTWSSP) has recruited local NGOs for twelve small towns under second batch project to provide supports in many key areas: socio-economic analysis; inclusion of disadvantaged section as well as gender-mainstreaming through the implementation of gender-equality, and social inclusion implementation plan in project activities, including delivery of output-based aid (OBA); community awareness and people’s participation in project activities; health and hygiene education; community based participatory solid waste management; and capacity building to WUSC/ WUA for operational sustainability.
SSTWSSP conducted an orientation program, called “Orientation Program of local NGOs” at Water Quality Hall, DWSS, from July 13th to July 14th 2012. The orientation program was focused on project implementation modalities, rules and responsibilities of NGO and expected to enhance their performance and produce meaningful results in the field. 
Twenty-five participants including team leaders, public health experts, and community development specialists/training coordinators of all Local NGOs participated in the program with one female training participant.  During the training, introduction, scope, working procedure and financial arrangement of SSTWSSSP were highlighted. Further, discussion on roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders and major activities of NGO in the field, were focused. In addition to this, knowledge sharing on socio-economic survey, reporting and monitoring format were conducted. Likewise, gender mainstreaming, a GESI action plan, work schedule, payment schedule and contract related other matters were discussed.  
To handle the orientation programs, some external resource persons and SSTWSSSP staffs were involved. Ms. Sanumaya Maharjan conducted the session ‘Solid Waste Management’ as represented from external resource from Municipality
Similarly, Mr. Ram Deep Sah ‘Project Director’, Tiresh Prasad Khatri ‘Deputy Project Director’, Bhoj Bikram Thapa ‘Deputy Project Director’, Mr. G. Sigdel, ‘Under Secretary Account Section’, Mr. Tapta Bahadur Rawal, ‘Sociologist’, Ms. Ajita Regmi ‘Sociologist’ and Ms. Pushpanjalit Rana ‘Sociologist’ from PMO and Mr. Binaya shah ‘Team Leader’, Mr. Roshan Subedi, Social Development Expert and Mr. Ramesh KumarTuladhar from PMC facilitated the sessions according to schedule.
Ultimately, the training was fruitful and successfully accomplished with the active participation of participants. The professionals of Local NGOs committed to deliver their duties effectively and efficiently. 
The training started with an opening remark and speech from Mr. Suman Prasad Sharma ‘Director General’ from DWSS. In the same time, Mr. Binod Chandra Jha ‘DDG’ gave his an opening remark.  Similarly, Mr. Ram Deep Sah ‘Project Director’ of Project Management Office, gave the closing remarks and valuable suggestions to participants during the closing ceremony.
